Deduction Duel guide

How Deduction Duel supports maths practice

Deduction Duel is a team number-property game. Learners use clues about factors, remainders, primes, digits, squares and cubes to narrow a hidden integer before risking a guess.

How to play

  1. Choose human or AI teams, match length, clue reveal mode, range and clue pack.
  2. Read each clue and keep track of which numbers are still possible.
  3. Guess early for more points, or wait for another clue and reduce the risk.
  4. Add round scores across the match to decide the winning team.

Skills practised

  • Factors, multiples and divisibility
  • Prime, square, cube and digit properties
  • Remainders and systematic elimination
  • Risk-reward reasoning and mathematical argument

Teacher notes

  • Works well as a whole-class starter with pupils discussing candidate numbers before guessing.
  • Use the mutual-agreement mode when you want teams to explain why another clue is or is not needed.
  • Stretch clue packs are useful once pupils are comfortable with HCF, LCM and richer number properties.
