How Bond Reactor supports maths practice

Bond Reactor builds fast, connected addition and subtraction recall. Learners complete bonds to a fixed whole, see that relationship in a faithful model, and gradually move from visual support to mental recall in either a score chase or an optional reactor-rescue challenge.

How to play

  1. Choose Classic cycle or Meltdown Rescue, use a quick preset for 10, 20, 50 or 100—or enter any custom total from 1 to 100—and select the level of visual support. Classic remains the default 60-second score chase.
  2. For Meltdown Rescue, choose Steady, recommended Surge, or Critical. Roughly 3, 6, or 12 well-timed ordinary correct answers respectively are needed to survive the full minute; Critical also starts hotter, climbs faster, cools less, and adds more heat for mistakes.
  3. Read the missing-number equation and use the full keypad to enter the unknown part.
  4. Start with every unit shown as a plasma core, then use the same bond in a labelled part-whole model.
  5. As support fades, tap the Whole core only when you need the part-whole hint, then move towards mental mode.
  6. In Meltdown Rescue, correct answers cool the rising heat, fluent independent answers cool it by a further 2°, and errors add heat. Cooling below the visible 8% floor becomes an announced Coolant Shield that still buys time. Reach 60 seconds to stabilise the reactor; reaching 100% ends the cycle early.

Teacher notes

  • Use a single target for focused retrieval, choose a custom whole that matches current teaching, then compare how the same structure scales across the 10, 20, 50 and 100 presets.
  • Ask pupils to describe which part is known, which part is missing and which number is the whole.
  • Adaptive mode fades one support level only after enough accurate evidence; Always show keeps the complete representation available.
  • Meltdown Rescue changes the pressure and visual feedback, not the mathematics: scoring, Mastery Charge, adaptive support and learning evidence use the same rules as Classic.
  • Surge is the recommended rescue starting point. Move to Steady when the timer is crowding out the mathematics, or Critical only when recall is already secure enough for expert pressure.
