Factoria guide

How Factoria supports maths practice

Factoria turns factor pairs and products into a tactical grid game. Players claim numbers by entering valid factors, then try to connect four counters while blocking their opponent.

How to play

  1. Start a human or AI match on the 12 by 12 product grid.
  2. Enter two factors whose product matches the square you want to claim.
  3. Use factor knowledge to build a line of four counters.
  4. Block strong opponent lines while looking for flexible factor pairs.

Skills practised

  • Factor pairs and products
  • Multiples and divisibility
  • Times table fluency
  • Strategic reasoning with number properties

Teacher notes

  • Useful after introducing factors, multiples, square numbers, and prime numbers.
  • Encourage pupils to explain why a move is valid before submitting it.
  • Pairs can discuss whether to play defensively or chase their own line of four.
