How Automata Lab works

This is a sandbox based on Conway's Game of Life. Your job is to create a starting pattern, predict what might happen, then play generations and compare the result with your prediction.

Instructions

Choose the grid size here.
Load a preset to open it in immersive mode, or start with a blank grid.
In immersive mode, click cells to set the first generation, choose speed, then press Play.
Finish the session to review the generations, final population, and peak population.

Preset formations

One generation to the next

A live cell survives with 2 or 3 live neighbours. A dead cell becomes alive with exactly 3 live neighbours. Other live cells die, and other dead cells stay dead.
